A Rio Mesa High School alumnus, Regalado was a standout pitcher and center fielder, earning three All-Pacific View League honors and being named the 2006 Pacific View League Pitcher of the Year. He also earned All-CIF First Team recognition as a utility player.

After high school, he began his collegiate career at Ventura College, where he pitched as both a starter and reliever from 2007–2008, earning Second-Team All-WSC honors in both seasons.
